Mississippi Information
Named for the Mississippi River that forms its western border, Mississippi is heavily forested with a segment of coastline along the Gulf of Mexico. Like many states along the Gulf, Mississippi values its fresh seafood. Catfish is Mississippi's specialty, as the state contains the catfish capital of the world in Belzoni, Mississippi. Culturally, Mississippi is best known for its southern food, music, and literature. One of the earliest styles of blues, the delta blues, was created along the Mississippi delta. Several famous authors come from Mississippi, including William Faulkner, Tennessee Williams, Richard Wright, and John Grisham.
