Maine Information
Maine is the easternmost state, best known for its seafood and scenery. Maine’s seafood specialties, including lobster, clams, and shrimp, are caught locally and served fresh. About 90 percent of Maine is covered in pine tree forests, giving the state its nickname, the Pine Tree State. Maine’s mountains, lakes, and rocky coastline provide visitors a multitude of opportunities for outdoor activities such as skiing and snowshoeing in the winter, and water sports in warmer months. Acadia National Park, located on an island off the coast, is one of the most popular destinations in the nation’s park system and a great place to watch wildlife.
