Indiana Information
Though mostly rural with vast expanses of farmland, Indiana features a shoreline along Lake Michigan, with Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and Indiana Beach. The Wabash River flows across the state from northeast to southwest, forming the border between Indiana and Illinois before flowing into the Ohio River. Indiana’s nickname “The Crossroads of America” originated from the many railroads that cross the state, though today, its abundance of interstates give the nickname new meaning. The people of Indiana are called “Hoosiers,” making Indiana the only state with a demonym not derived from the state’s name.
