Alabama Information
Located in the Deep South, Alabama was a critical state in both the Civil War and the Civil Rights movement. Montgomery, the first capital of the Confederacy, is also the site of such historic events as the arrest of Rosa Parks, marches, boycotts, and protests, for which there stands a memorial today. Alabama's landscapes vary from mountains in the north to the white sand beaches along the Gulf in the south, where the National Shrimp Festival occurs each fall. Though primarily rural and agricultural, Alabama is a headquarters for aerospace, with NASA's first field center, Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville.
