  • latitude
  • angular distance north or south of the equator, measured in degrees. The equator has a latitude of 0º while the North Pole has a latitude of 90º north (90º or +90º)
  • longitude
  • angular distance east or west of the Prime Meridian, measured in degrees. Longitude lines run from the north pole to the south pole
  • meridian
  • longitude lines running from the North Pole to the South Pole
  • Prime Meridian
  • the line of longitude that runs across Greenwich England, which is designated the starting point for measuring longitude. The Prime Meridian has a longitude of 0º
  • Equator
  • an imaginary line that divides the Earth in half horizontally, creating two equal hemispheres
  • Hemisphere
  • one half of the Earth’s sphere either horizontally or vertically - creating North and South hemispheres and East and West Hemispheres
  • altitude
  • elevation, or distance above the surface
